In August, a pair of jaguar twins were born at Kobe Municipal Oji Zoo and are thriving.
Sporting black fur and round eyes, these male and female jaguar twins share an identical appearance and entered the world on August 18th.
Their parents are Athos, who joined the zoo in 2013, and Nelia, who arrived from a South African zoo last year. While most jaguars exhibit yellowish-brown coats with black mottled patterns, the presence of these black variants is a rarity in Japan.
Remarkably, these twins mark the first jaguar birth at Oji Zoo in eight years.
